What’s in my snack bag?
“A day in snacks: how I stay fuelled, focused, and full without spending a fortune.”
London can be loud. Deadlines, packed tubes, group chats pinging non-stop. When my brain needs a soft reboot, I run to these calm corners.
Regent’s Park, Queen Mary’s Rose Garden
Hours: Everyday, 5 am–9 pm
Cost: Free
Student ID: Not required
Nearest Tube: Regent’s Park or Baker Street
Safety Note: Stick to lit paths if visiting after sunset
Cute date spot or solo reset. Grab a coffee from the Inner Circle kiosk, do one slow loop, then park on a bench. Best after rain. Colours pop. Bonus points if you journal for 10 minutes.
Best time: Early morning
Hampstead Heath Ponds + Parliament Hill
Hours: Heath open daily, 24 hours; Swimming Ponds 7 am–2:45 pm (winter) / 7 am–8:30 pm (summer)
Cost: Walks are free; swimming £4–£6
Student ID: Discounts available for swim sessions
Nearest Tube: Hampstead Heath or Gospel Oak
Safety Note: Avoid isolated trails after dark
Want nature that feels real? Heath it is. Swim at the ponds in summer. In cooler weather, stomp the trails and hike up Parliament Hill for a skyline that clears your head.
Tip: Carry a hoodie. The wind at the top is sneaky.
Kyoto Garden, Holland Park
Hours: Daily, 7:30 am–8 pm
Cost: Free
Student ID: Not required
Nearest Tube: Holland Park or Kensington High Street
Safety Note: Safe during daylight; parks close at sunset
Small, calm, pretty. Waterfall noise = instant chill. Sit, count five slow breaths, watch koi glide by. If a peacock struts past, you have to stay at least two more minutes. Rules are rules.

Old church ruins turned into a pocket garden right in the City. Ivy, stone arches, and peace. Read one page. Close the book. Breathe. Boom, reset.

Tropical plants inside a brutalist maze. Humid air, soft light, giant leaves. Feels like a mini holiday without leaving Zone 1.
